Lazy Daisy - Tara Clerkin Trio
generally I’m a chill-out hater, too much art is made to be as unintrusive as possible these days, Y2K nostalgia be damned
BUT I enjoy this new Tara Clerkin Trio album (“Somewhere Good”) despite the fact that it does - to my ears - evoke aspects of chill-out or background music (complimentary)! it works for me because it’s clearly made by people playing real instruments (sorry for being a dad about this) and works equally well as foreground music as it does background music, it’s one of my highlights of 2026!
Action Park Sargent / Action Park #2 (no plores) - Or Sobre Blau
to be mad pretentious here, in the same way Moby-Dick is a book that explores all the possibilities of what a book can be, “Making Friends” is an album of guitar music that explores all the possibilities of what guitar music can be and like Melville’s prose, the music of Or Sobre Blau communicates an infectious love of its medium which I defy anyone not to be moved by! just listen to the one-two punch of “Action Park Sargent” and “Action Park #2 (no plores)”!
Inside Out - Jesse Rae
this is apparently in that film “The Drama” which I’ve not heard any talk of since it was released? well I haven’t seen it and I happened upon Jesse Rae coincidentally at that same time
anyway, what a song and what an interesting person Jesse Rae is to spend an afternoon reading about (if the cover art doesn’t inspire you to do the same then either you aren’t a curious person or you aren’t Scottish)
Brief Outline - Henry Nielsen
lovely stuff this, “Hollyhocks” is a short album of well written country influenced tunes by Henry Nielsen that sound great and go down really easy, I’m particularly taken with this track “Brief Outline”
Beer In The Sun - GMGC
As I’m typing this Scotland have a 0.01% chance of making it to the knock out stage of the World Cup. The suns out however, and it’s so much better. You could run me over and I’d walk it off…
